Setup guide

How to install and use CastSound

A short walkthrough for installing CastSound on your phone and computer, then connecting them.

This setup turns an Android phone into a wireless speaker, microphone, and webcam for a Mac. Any recent Mac and any Android phone on the same Wi-Fi network can do it, with no extra hardware.

Prepare

Put your devices on the same network

Open CastSound on your Mac and on your Android phone. Connect both to the same Wi-Fi network. On the phone, allow microphone and local-network access when Android asks. On the Mac, approve the CastSound audio components the first time the app starts.

3

Connect

Choose the device you recognize

  1. On the phone, tap the name of your Mac in CastSound.
  2. Check that the name and code shown on the Mac match the phone.
  3. Approve the connection on the Mac and wait for the connected status.

If the device is not listed, scan the code shown on the computer or enter the local address displayed by CastSound.

4

Use CastSound

Choose CastSound in the app you are using

On the Mac, choose CastSound as the sound output to hear Mac audio on the phone. For calls and recordings, choose CastSound as the microphone input. To appear on video, start the camera in the CastSound phone app and pick the CastSound camera in Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams.

If you get stuck

Check these three things

  • Both devices are on the same non-guest Wi-Fi network.
  • The phone allowed microphone and local-network access in Android settings.
  • The Mac allowed the CastSound audio components to load in Security settings.
